Before the free zd driver made it into the kernel there was a separate proprietary driver available. BB code is On. Using that firmware with a kernel containing zd was not satisfactory and the solution was to use the firmware available from sourceforge.

So, they advise against installing the zdfirmware package and instead advise to install the firmware that sd1211 from ’07?!?
